Though he said he received guidance from teachers and coaches, the school now has a formal staff dedicated to helping students reach their potential, including four academic counselors and four of what he termed “formation” directors. Walswick said Servite has changed in some ways since he attended. Reinert graduated from Servite two years after Walswick. The school also hired Chris Reinert, a former assistant coach at the University of Colorado, as the new head coach of Servite football. Plans call for a new track along with refurbished offices and classrooms by the end of summer. Servite also is in the midst of a mini-building boom, according to Walswick. “We need to make sure we help our students discover their why, while also providing them the methods of how to best to accomplish their goals,” Walswick said. Walswick noted that Servite works to help boys get into school at a time when men are less likely than women to get a four-year degree. Last year, the private school, where annual tuition runs $19,115, sent 78% of its graduates to a four-year university, well above the state average. Walswick, 39, declined to comment on any pending litigation, but said Servite is updating its protocols and safety standards for hiring practices to create a safe environment for students. None of the allegations involve current teachers Fitzpatrick died in 1997 and Cotton died in 2007. It came about three months after Servite was named in another lawsuit, alleging sexual abuse by another former Servite teacher, Robert C. That same month, the number of victims who claimed in lawsuits that they’d been sexually assaulted decades earlier by Servite High School Father Kevin Fitzpatrick jumped from five to eight. In December, the school’s board of directors dismissed the last president, Chris Weir, and named Walswick, then the school’s principal, to serve as president on an interim basis. Walswick’s appointment comes after Servite has dealt with some public turmoil.
